Here is the order of debate. You must adhere to it as strictly as you can. Each speech is timed.

1AC – 5 minutes – This premier speech lays the foundation for the arguments of the Affirmative team and is usually evidence reading, however, analysis can be in speech as well.

CrossExamination – 2 minutes

1NC – 5 minutes – This speech provides the framework for the counterargument, in which disadvantages to the affirmative’s plan are introduced and the evidence countering the affirmative’s arguments are introduced, and provides linebyline countering of the evidence’s points.

Cross Examination – 2 minutes

• 2AC – 5 minutes – This speech counters the points made in the 1NC, specifically by countering disadvantages, also it is the last speech in which the Affirmative team can introduce new evidence.

Cross Examination – 2 minutes

• 2NC – 5 minutes (pt. 1 of negative bloc.) – This speech is the last speech in which new evidence can be introduced. This counters the points made in the 2AC, but should mostly introduce new evidence.

Cross Examination – 2 minutes

• 1NR – 3 minutes (pt. 2 of negative bloc.) – This is the first of the rebuttals, and the entirety of this speech should be made up of countering the affirmative’s points in the 2AC.

• 1AR – 3 minutes – The goal of the 1AR should be to refute the arguments in the negative bloc without new evidence. One should extend evidence (referencing) and analyze the opponent’s arguments in one’s own words.

• 2NR – 3 minutes – This should be the final push of the negative team. The negative team needs to sum up why they win and make any last refutations in the beginning part of the speech.

• 2AR – 3 minutes – The affirmative team must make any last refutations, say why their team wins, and tell the judges why they win.
